I have a 2006 Quest with 36K on it. I have ben searching everywhere online to get some info on replacing the PAX tires with regular tires. It seems a lot of people have done it. In fact I had a hard time finding 17" wheels for Quest because everyone is replacing the PAX tires with regular tires.
I just purchased four 17" rims from thewheelwarehouse.com at a cost of $995 (inlcuding shipping charges), I have to cough up another $400 or so for tires plus labor. Hopefully, the TMPS can be properly set with the new tires. It is absolutely rediculous that I am expected to pay about $500 a year just for tires. I am searching for class action lawsuites in Virginia to join.
I will put the PAX wheels on eBay, maybe I can recover some of the money I had to spend.
I love the car, but totally pissed off at Michelin for their low quality tires and at Nissan for conveniently forgetting to mention the cost of replacing the tires.

We got a nail in the tread of a PAX tire on our Quest. Our dealer was absolutely no help and laughed at us for even bringing it in to them to be fixed. 1-800-Nissan1 was no help either. Nissan has basically passed the buck to Michelin. Nissan has very poor customer service and absolutely NO customer loyalty! Michelin however has bent over backwards to help us. They flew a new wheel to our local airport and had it delivered to our front door on the same day -- all for FREE.

Thanks for the comment. I was not able to get any help from Nissan. I only received a phone call from some corporate yuppy, that basically said you're on your own, and that they have made a deal with Michelin to make sure that there will always be in stock for our current vehicles.

She also went on to say that if we changed the wheels that we would void the warranty on the drivetrain. Not wanting to void my purchased extended warranty, I replaced the tires.

The place that I got the tires from was very nice, and submitted a warranty claim to Michelin. I was able to get the tires at 50% off, which was over $400 in savings. They didn't do anything about the labor. So all in all, I paid about $800 to change them over, not awful, and not great. I still need to worry about if we get a flat in the middle of nowhere, and I hope I get the same mileage as the first set of tires. Once my warranty expires, it's a new set of wheels and tires for me. Good luck with it, I hope you figure something out.

We have the same problem. We have a 2007 Quest SE w/ Nav and PAX tire system. PAX tires are about 80% tread gone (the replacement cross-hatch is even with the tread, so they need to be replaced) at 18,000 miles. Michelin states they will prorate replacement costs, whatever that means but the nearest location that can even work on these is 20 miles away, and I live in downtown Chicago! I asked Nissan Consumer Affairs to replace the PAX wheels with regular wheels and I would replace the tires with regular tires but after a week they just came back and said I am out of luck.

The problem with the class-action is that if you look at the settlement they made in the Nissan-Honda case at http://www.sfmslaw.com/pages/cases.php?id=343, the settlement does very little to ameliorate what is a tire system that ultimately costs about 10 times what normal tires do over the life of the vehicle and leaves you in a dangerous position as you say if you do something like travel out west with these tires. Where can you get a fix out in Wyoming for instance, and how long would it take?

I have always bought Michelin and this is our first Nissan. After their handling of this matter, I can say I will never buy Michelin or Nissan again, despite the fact that we mostly love the car and had always had great performance with Michelin.

I have read elsewhere that someone replaced PAX on their Honda Odyssey at tirerack.com online. I looked it up and I could buy 5 wheels and Yokohama Avid TRZ tires with sensors installed for about $1300-1400, though I am not sure where I would put the spare in the car. I have to find out what this does to our warranty first though.
